PHILIPPINE MYTHOLOGY

A Brief History

  • Hindu mythologies have arrived in some areas of the Philippines around 200-300 CE. This brought  Indianized traditions to the country which also includes indigenous epics such as Ibalong, Siday and Hinilawood. Besides this, folk stories, and a variety of superstitions have also been introduced to the Filipinos. The concepts of good and bad demons have spread throughout the Philippines. 

  • With the arrival of the Spaniards, they have converted the Hinduism mythologies into Christian mythologies and the beliefs that accompany them.
